It’s Final! The Wheezetones Are Lincoln’s Favorite Cover Band!
When three guitar playing friends got together to perform a few songs back in 1991, little did they know their trio would evolve into something much bigger. Almost 20 years later Paul Burner, Doug Dickeson, and John Ballew are still making music. And, along with the addition of Bob Creager (drums), Keith Cornelius (bass), and Ted Larson (sax/keyboards), The Wheezetones have definitely won the hearts of Lincoln, Nebraska – being voted Lincoln’s #1 Cover Band in the Lincoln Journal-Star’s Music Madness contest.
With more than 40 cover bands performing in the Lincoln area, The Wheezetones’ popularity is matched only by their passion for the classic rock they perform. Their popularity, it might be noted, extends far beyond the Lincoln area, as evidenced by the emails they received from fans in places like Belgium.
The Journal-Star’s contest began with a field of 16 bands. In the final contest, The Wheezetones defeated funk/rock band Soul Dawg. Although both bands share Ted Larson, they also appeared together at “Celebrate Lincoln” in June, 2011 – headlining the Friday entertainment, and will perform together on New Year’s Eve at Pershing Auditorium!
